Light in front, not behind

The main light should face you, near or just behind the screen. A bright window behind you turns you into a silhouette.

Soften the light

A bare bright light makes harsh shadows. Use a lamp with a diffuser or shade, or bounce the light off a wall.

Match color with the room

Mixing very warm and very cool light can look odd on camera. Set the lamp close to the color of the room light, or adjust it until skin tones look natural.

Avoid glare on glasses

Raise the light slightly above eye level or move it to the side until reflections leave your lenses.

Raise the light.

Slightly above eye level clears reflections from glasses.

Move it to the side.

Shift the lamp until lenses stop reflecting it.
